Starter

The starter is an electric motor that consists of several brushes. These brushes carry electrical current that allows the motor to spin and therefore turns over the engine. Read More »

Independent Suspension

Most early cars used a rear axle that was one unit, solidly linking both rear wheels, the differential and brake assemblies. Sports car competition showed that if the wheel assemblies can be made lighter, including brakes, hubs and axle parts, the car will ride and handle better. As a result, manufacturers have unlinked the wheel assemblies using jointed axles so ... Read More »

Inter-cooler

The inter-cooler chills each specific charge of incoming air before it reaches the turbo-charger. Cooling the air increases the air density but also the amount of oxygen in the air. More oxygen condensed into a specific quantity of air enriches the mixture of oxygen and fuel that’s required for combustion and ultimately generates more power with each cycle of ignition. ... Air Dam

Located below the front nose, this piece of Kevlar material is structured for aerodynamics. If the air is going over the car instead of through the car, it is going to go faster. The amount of frontal downforce on a car can be increased if the car is sitting lower to the ground, which will decrease the amount of airflow ... Read More »

Bite

A car’s ability to “stick” or “adhere” to the track. Read More »

Collision Insurance

Clutch

This is the end of the drive train before power is transmitted to the wheels. In a typical car, the engine (or electric motor) transmits its power through some sort of clutch into a transmission. Then the power is transmitted to differential gears that adjust the engine speed to the most efficient for the use intended. These final drive differential ... Read More »

Double Wishbone

Type of suspension where two V arms form the upper and lower pivoting and locating members. Most commonly used on front suspensions since they work well with steering links, but occasionally are used on rear suspensions. Read More »
