The “3000 Mile Oil Change” is a Myth

Here is a myth that is "busted" not by the Discovery Channel's Mybusters, but the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB). The myth is that you have to change your engine oil every 3000 miles. According a recent CIWMB study, 73 percent of California drivers change their oil more frequently than their manufacturer recommends. Read More »

2007 Mazda Mazda6 Mid-Size Sedan

This car's driving feel matches its aggressive body styling. The Mazda6 adds a new bargain-oriented model called the i Sport Value Edition for 2007, offering some popular options at a cheap price. 2007 New Beetle Cabriolet Convertible and Coupe

White paint, white leather and a white cover for the convertible top give this special edition New Beetle a monochromatic look. Only 3,000 of these will be produced. Thank goodness there's at least one nod to long-lived cleanliness in the triple-white New Beetle convertible. It has black carpet. Read More »

2007 Hyundai Accent Compact Economy 3-Door Hatchback Coupe

Hyundai's new two-door Accent looks good considering its cheap price. It starts under $11,000 for a basic, stripped-down model, or around $14,000 for one with more goodies. Build quality in the affordable Accent is much better than in Hyundai's cars just a few years ago. If you're looking to save money on your car payment and your gas bill, this is a great way to do it. 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS Compact Sedan

Ever heard of a "sleeper," a car that looks ordinary but drives really fast? This is the opposite, the quick-looking Mitsubishi Lancer GTS, which comes with wild styling but makes do with the ordinary Lancer's 152-horsepower engine. Other than a rough suspension that's designed more for fun than comfort, the Mitsubishi Lancer GTS has a rather comfortable interior. Roomy seats and a sculpted back bench make the interior look more like a family car than a screamer. Read More »

2007 Mitsubishi Outlander XLS 4WD Sport Utility Vehicle

Mitsubishi's new Outlander is one of the best looking small SUVs. It's a car-like vehicle that doesn't have pretensions of toughness. Other than a cramped back seat, the Outlander's interior is nice. It feels tightly constructed, and - while it's definitely swathed in plastic - it doesn't seem as cheap as some of its competitors. Read More »

2007 Kia Amanti Mid-Size Luxury Sedan

If you didn't know this car was a Kia, you'd probably think it was expensive. The affordable Amanti looks and drives like a luxury car, although a few annoying things remind you of its cheap Korean roots. Quality is surprisingly good inside the Kia Amanti. For the most part, it doesn't look like an economy car, but small, cheap-looking gauges and a thin steering wheel give away its humble origins. Read More »

2007 Suzuki XL7 Limited 2WD Sport Utility Vehicle

Suzuki's new XL7 may look like a crossover, but it still has some elements of a truck-based design with rails underneath the body. Like the way it drives, quality inside the Suzuki XL7 is mediocre. It's not ugly enough to make you gag, but it also won't produce any wows for its fit and finish. Read More »
