This four-door wagon in the compact class amounts to a deluxe treatment of the four-door Vitara, but it's rigged with a 2.5-liter V6 engine worth 165 hp, plus unique exterior dressings and interior equipment not available on the four-cylinder Vitara.
For 2003, there's a single trim badged simply as Grand Vitara but available with either 2WD or 4WD traction. The 4WD version puts a two-speed transfer case in the four-by mechanism for shift-on-the-fly convenience when running even at highway speed.
Cabin appointments improve with new models reflecting a redesigned dashboard and center floor console with adjustable armrest and storage rack for CD cases. Brushed aluminum trim with accents in chrome decorate console and dash. Also aboard is a new overhead console inset with dual reading lamps and storage compartments, and a new stereo system in the dash comes with seven speakers.
Grand Vitara rolls on new aluminum wheels and the body brings two new exterior paint chips in Silky Silver Metallic and Catseye Blue Metallic.
