The smallest Toyota splits into coupe and sedan formats. Each carves out surprising space for riders in a five-seat cabin, accommodates a load of luggage in back, then delivers a kick from a juicy little aluminum engine and somehow still manages to rack up high fuel economy figures -- more than forty miles down the road for every gallon of the regular-grade fuel consumed. Major changes come with 2003 editions, as the overall length increases by 1.6 inches and fresh exterior styling forges new fascia, grille, headlamps, trunk lid and taillamps. New colors also apply, such as Phantom Gray Pearl and Sand Castle Metallic. In the cabin, new fabrics cover seats, and new optional packages emerge, such as a power package with power windows and locks, and the chrome package with chrome and silver-painted trim elements. On the rear bench seat, an optional seatback now splits in 60/40 sections and both sides fold down to expand the cargo bay.
