The newest product from Mazda turns a mid-size four-door sedan into a sports car. The MAZDA6 carries an aggressive package design with athletic stance distinguished by pronounced shoulders and exaggerated wheel arches. Mazda's signature five-point grille appears boldly on the prow with chrome accents and flanking multi-lens headlamps. Mechanical components include a new double-wishbone design for the front suspension and a multi-link arrangement at the rear, a big disc brake at all four posts and an electronically-controlled brake assist system. For strength, the MAZDA6 offers either a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine good for 160 hp or a 3.0-liter V6 juiced to 220 hp. In Mazda's sporty tradition, both plants are available with manual or automatic transmission. The spacious cabin, with two front buckets and a rear bench for three with split folding seatback, adds titanium-finish trim elements on the central dash with round dials and chrome accents. Also, the telescopic steering wheel adjusts for both tilt and rake positions as a unique feature. Optional packages include an audio kit with Bose sound system and in-dash CD changer or the Sport group with 17-inch alloy wheels and V-rated tires, twin exhaust tips plus clear-lens halogen foglamps and a flying spoiler on the tail.
