BMW's line of 5-Series models grows with three new all-wheel-drive (AWD) models -- sedans labeled as 525xi and 530xi plus a sport wagon 530xi. The 530xi sport wagon also brings extra gear like Hill Descent Control (HDC) and a panorama sliding roof, with options for a head-up display and adaptive headlamps.

BMW's 'intelligent' AWD device called xDrive is available. Adjustable and infinitely variable, the xDrive system can direct the engine's power to whichever axle, front or rear, has the best traction bite. xDrive works with the computerized four-wheel Dynamic Stability Control (DSC-x) mechanism and a four-wheel traction control system (TCS-x) which can correct potentially dangerous skid movements.
