The Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series released its official point standings today following last weekend's Grand Prix of Miami. Howard-Boss Motorsports No.2 CITGO Pontiac Crawford driver Andy Wallace took the points lead after his victory at Homestead-Miami Speedway with co-driver Milka Duno. Wallace, who narrowly missed victory at the Rolex 24 At Daytona when the suspension broke on the team's car with only 20 minutes remaining in the race, took the lead in the Daytona Prototypes class with 65 points.
The Englishman holds a five-point advantage over a foursome of drivers that are tied for second in the standings. Rolex 24 winners Forest Barber and Terry Borcheller slipped to second in the points with their sixth-place finish at the wheel of the Bell Motorsports No. 54 Kodak EasyShare Pontiac Doran JE4 over the weekend, while G&W Motorsports drivers Cort Wagner and Kelly Collins jumped from 11th place into the four-way tie for second in the standings following their podium finish in the No. 81 BMW Doran JE4.
Duno, who did not partner with Wallace in the Rolex 24 and finished ninth in class at the season opener, now trails her co-driver by eight points in the driver point standings.
Mike Fitzgerald has established himself as the sole points leader in the GT class driver standings following the Grand Prix of Miami. Fitzgerald, who took the class win in the Orbit Racing No. 44 Porsche GT3 RS at the Rolex 24, finished fourth over the weekend with co-drivers Joe and Jay Policastro. His 63 points gives him a seven-point lead over The Racer's Group driver Kevin Buckler, who holds second place.
Prototype Technology Group driver Boris Said made a giant leap in the points from 66th, following his disappointing 17th-place finish at the Rolex 24, to third in the GT standings. Said scored the class victory in the No. 21 BMW M3 with co-driver Bill Auberlen at Homestead-Miami Speedway, giving him a total of 49 points.
Grand American officials also announced today that the SGS-winning entry from AASCO Motorsports and its drivers David Murry and Craig Stanton will not receive any points for their class victory at the Grand Prix of Miami due to a technical violation discovered in post-race inspection. The No. 16 Porsche GT3 Cup was found to have modifications to the front of the car beyond the manufacturer's specifications.
The loss of points moved several TPC Racing drivers into the top of the standings in the SGS class. No. 36 Porsche drivers Michael Levitas and Randy Pobst are tied for first with 64 points, while their teammates in the No. 38 Porsche, Andy Lally and Marc Bunting, are only two points back with 62.
Rolex 24 class winners Jean-Francois Dumoulin and Bobby Julien slipped out of the points lead following their fifth-place finish in class in the Doncaster Racing No. 91 Porsche. The Canadian duo now trails the leaders by three with 61 points.
In the manufacturer standings, the second-straight win by Pontiac strengthened its lead in the Daytona Prototype engine category to eight points over Lexus and 14 over BMW. Doran maintained its lead in the chassis standings, but Crawford trimmed it to only two points with its victory.
Porsche established an early dominance in the GT and SGS manufacturer standings with a 16 point advantage over BMW in GT and 29 points over Chevrolet in SGS.
Last weekend's Grand Prix of Miami will be broadcast on SPEED Channel this Sunday, March 7 at 4 p.m. ET.
