Champ Car Fantasy Racing Report — Montreal

Oriol Servia's crowd pleasing win in the #2 PacifiCare Ford-Cosworth Lola Bridgestone this past Sunday in Montreal helped nearly 30 percent of the Champ Car fantasy teams advance in the standings as the Catalonian made his first trip to the top of the victory podium.

Servia scored an event leading 111 fantasy points with the win and was joined by his Newman/Haas teammate Sebastien Bourdais (#1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) as the top two fantasy point scorers during Molson Indy Montreal weekend. Despite finishing fourth in the race, Bourdais' strong efforts in both the Friday and Saturday qualifying session catapulted the Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford championship points leader in to a fantasy podium position.

After earning the first podium of his Champ Car career, DHL Global Mail driver, Timo Glock, has increased his average of fantasy points earned per race to 43.7 and lowered his cost per point (CPP) ratio during the last three races more than $500.

The PKV Racing duo of Cristiano da Matta and Jimmy Vasser made waves in the fantasy standings as well as da Matta scored a sixth-place finish and Vasser finished one spot back in seventh at Montreal. Sunday was da Matta's best fantasy showing since his win in June at Portland as he earned 79 fantasy points. This cut his CPP in half as each point he earns now costs $28,216. 1996 Champ Car World Series Champion Jimmy Vasser scored 71 fantasy points dropping his CPP nearly 25 percent to $19,607.

Paul Tracy's miscue in the pits hurt nearly half the fantasy teams playing as the veteran Canadian could only salvage an eighth place finish. Despite scoring the sixth most fantasy points in Montreal, "PT's" CPP jumped to nearly $24,000, an increase of around $3,000.

Teams have traded Andrew Ranger, Oriol Servia and Timo Glock the most this season as Oriol Servia has seen his stock climb the most among fantasy team owners. Glock is right there with him while Ranger's seesaw season has seen him added to nearly as many teams as he has been dropped from.

Currently there is a 17-way tie for the lead in the Champ Car Fantasy Challenge as Team Benzene was the winner of latest round from Montreal.

Inside Advice:

Movers:Timo Glock sure looks to be the best value on the board right now. His finishes of late have not indicated how good he has driven in the last few events. One thing to keep in mind before you add this talented rookie is his lack of experience on ovals as the series heads to its only superspeedway race in Las Vegas.

Oriol Servia is on a tear since joining the Newman/Haas outfit. The likable driver has scored six podium finishes in eight races and will be driving the car that nearly won the Las Vegas event last season.

Shaker: Justin Wilson has been on a roller-coaster ride these past couple of races. An early exit from the Denver event hurt his Fantasy Racing point tally, but the Brit rebounded for a podium finish in Montreal.

Border-Line: Even after tremendous gains in his CPP, Cristiano da Matta may still be too expensive for most team owners. One bright spot for team owners looking to add the Brazilian to their rosters is his record on superspeedways including a win at California Speedway in 2001.

Don't forget you can still sign-up and play for single race victories amongst the thousands of participants, as the the Champ Car World Series takes to the Las Vegas oval on September 23. For more information click "online games" on the left of the page.
