Haitian Government Grants Permit to Recover Captain Morgan’s Flagship off Coast of Haiti

The Oxford, the flagship of infamous pirate Captain Henry Morgan, sunk off the coast of what is now Haiti on January 2, 1669 in a fiery explosion during a rum-induced party. Today Adventure Pointe, an international adventure travel firm, is behind the expedition that will launch January 2, 2004 -- 335 years from the date she went down, where renowned adventure travelers and treasure hunters will search for the wreckage of the Oxford.

"This modern-day treasure hunt is expected to recover cannons, anchors, swords, muskets, untold treasure and other pirate booty," reports Rio of Adventure Pointe. "The expedition will utilize the most advanced equipment available, setting out to recover and restore the lost pirate treasure, thus preserving its historical and archeological significance."

Adventure Pointe has assembled the finest crew of underwater archeologists, salvage divers, dive masters, video crews and legendary treasure hunters from around the world to help in the expedition.

Recreational divers will be given a rare opportunity to participate in the hunt for the Oxford. Divers can purchase dive packages to join the expedition for one to two weeks at a time at a cost of $2,895 (all inclusive from Miami) per diver.

Information on the dive packages can be obtained at www.adventurepointe.com .
