Small Eco-Resort on the Beach for the Savvy

Want to decompress from the rigors of everyday life on your next holiday? Need to reconnect with your significant other? Long to get away from phones, TV and modern anxiety claptraps? Rancho Sol Caribe is the answer. But book now because the resort is LocoGringo's smallest property with only four rooms.

"This laid back, four room eco-friendly boutique resort on the beach in the Sian Kaan Biosphere is away from it all and pretty much heaven on earth," Kay Walten, Loco Gringo's co-owner notes. "The resort's renown powdery white sand beach is steps from your door, with waves lapping just a few feet away from the porch, lulling guests to sleep at night. During the day, the fishing is world class, snorkeling is just off shore over pristine reefs, and a siesta on the beach is always a great option".

The joy of staying in this manicured tropical landscaped resort is that the larger area in which it is situated, Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve, is a strictly regulated natural biosphere reserve set aside as a habitat for indigenous species and migratory birds. "Sian Ka'an" is translated from Mayan as "where the sky is born" or "gift from the sky." The area was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. Sian Kaan allows "sustainable usage" which includes marginal development and low impact tourist activities.

Local seafood is plentiful since Punta Allen, a fishing village, is located just five miles away. Fish of many varieties, lobster and shrimp are plentiful. A small grocery store, laundry, a few local restaurants and friendly fishermen offer boat/snorkel/fishing tours.

"Rancho Sol Caribe is an adventurer's paradise, situated on the southern coastal waters on the edge of the Caribbean Sea about 4 hours south of Cancun," said Ms. Walten, a U.S. Ex-Pat and an expert on what to do in Mexico. "Although this boutique resort offers personalized service, the resort makes some concessions due to the limitations on an alternative energy, but happily, these are few."

"The real thrill for our visitors comes with communing with nature as it really is. Living for a time in the peace of the Biosphere, and exploring the surrounding area, tasting some of the freshest foods, enjoying some of the world's renown fly fishing, great snorkeling and scuba diving, bird watching or just reading in a hammock, there is always something to do at or near the resort," Ms. Walten notes.

Sol Caribe is an eco-friendly resort using solar energy, has electricity on a 24-hour basis. Dietary requests can be fulfilled but must be made know at the time reservations are made. Rooms can accommodate 2 to 6 guests depending on the room size. Great for families or small groups.
