Architects On Display At Scottsdale Museum Of Contemporary Art

This summer, visitors to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) can view architects at work as part of their southwestNET series. Beginning May 27 and running through Sept. 24, the entire staff of Jones Studio, Inc., one of Arizona’s top architectural firms, is moving into SMoCA’s galleries. The displaced office will host client and builder meetings; post working drawings for current projects; brainstorm design ideas for future projects; hold student critiques; and entertain questions from the visiting audience about issues at the heart of current architectural practice.

The exhibit is part of the museum’s ongoing programming that explores issues in contemporary architecture and design. By exposing themselves to the gallery-going public, the architects and designers of the studio, including principal Eddie Jones, hope to challenge the way in which people understand the traditional architectural show; make transparent how design happens; expose how the influence of climate, client demand, monetary restrictions and team input have on the form a building takes; and allow public discussion of works-in-progress. During the past 25 years, the staff of Jones Studio has created dozens of modernist buildings that address client needs while giving them unexpected experiences through common materials, uncommon sculptural forms and luminous spaces.
