NISSAN / FRONTIER / 2005-2006
Manufacturer : NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
Manufacturer’s Report Number : N/A
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number :06V092000
Mfg's Report Date : MAR 28, 2006
Component:FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:FILLER PIPE AND CAP
Potential Number Of Units Affected :42000

Summary: On certain King Cab trucks, in a severe side impact crash, there is a possibility that the structure stiffness and geometry of the body to which the fuel filler tube is mounted could create a relative displacement between the filler cap and filler door. The filler cap tether may be stretched to the point of unscrewing the cap off.

Consequence: This may result in a fuel spillage which in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the fuel cap tether pin assembly with a modified one free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on April 17, 2006. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.
