Recall of the 2004 Chrysler Sebring

Dates of Manufacture:  April - June 2004

Defect:  On certain 2-door coupe passenger vehicles, the fuel return line hose fitting on the electric fuel pump may be improperly molded. Breakage could result in a leakage of fuel, and in the presence of an ignition source, it could result a fire.

Remedy:  Dealers will replace the fuel pump. The manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule for this campaign. Owners may contact DaimlerChrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

Component: system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump

Potential Number Of Units Affected: 4,121

Summary: On certain passenger vehicles, the fuel return line hose fitting on the electric fuel pump may be restricted, causing excessive fuel pressure to build up in the fuel injection system. Excessive fuel pressure may result in the fuel return hose becoming dislodged, resulting in fuel leakage.

Consequence: Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the fuel pump pressure. Those vehicles exhibiting higher than normal fuel pump pressure will receive fuel pump modifications. Owner notification is expected to begin during November 2003. Owners should contact Daimler Chrysler at 1-800-992-1997.
