Solenoid

Solenoids are electro-magnetic switches. When electricity is sent to the solenoid, a magnetic field forms. The magnetic field moves a metal piston that is connected to a mechanical linkage or in this case, a valve. When the metal piston moves, the application is made. The application may be the moving of a valve in the valve body to activate second gear.
