TORRANCE, Calif., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., announced manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP) today for the all-new 2007 FJ Cruiser sport utility vehicle (SUV) and all-new 2007 Yaris liftback and sedans. Additionally, the all-new Yaris Sedan and sporty S Sedan made their world debut at a press conference today at the 2006 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show.

The all-new FJ Cruiser SUV was created to give customers the freedom to go anywhere and do anything. The overwhelmingly positive response to the FJ Cruiser concept, developed over three years ago, prompted Toyota to launch a production version of the SUV. The all-new production model retains much of the design details of the original concept.

Chiseled from nearly a half-century tradition of tough off-road performance provided by the legendary FJ 40, the original 4Runner, and 4x4 compact pickups, the FJ Cruiser was developed as a capable and affordable off-roader aimed specifically at young buyers with active outdoor lifestyles.

The FJ Cruiser takes on an authentic functional form, yet adopts several styling cues from the original FJ 40. Some of these cues are notable on the front end by its wide grille with "Toyota" logo badging, round headlights, and offset combination lamps. Additional inspiration can be found through its upright windshield and white cap roof. Traits are also noticeable in the rear with wrapping rear corner windows. The modern shape of the FJ Cruiser is woven into a compact package set on a wide track, producing enhanced stability and a powerful stance.

Power is supplied by a 4.0-liter V6 engine, which generates 239 horsepower and 278 lb-ft. of torque. The engine is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission on both 4x2 and part-time 4x4 configurations and an available six-speed manual on full-time 4x4 models.

The five-passenger FJ Cruiser rides on a modified Prado (overseas Land Cruiser configuration) platform and features 17-inch steel wheels and four-wheel disc brakes. Just like all of the SUV's in Toyota's line-up, the FJ Cruiser will be equipped with the STAR SAFETY SYSTEM(TM) which includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and traction control (TRAC), an anti-lock brake system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) and brake assist as standard. All 4x2 models will come with a standard automatic limited slip differential (ALSD).

The tough and straightforward theme of the FJ Cruiser is extended to the interior with a cabin designed specifically for basic functionality and flexible utility. The instrument panel features an exterior color trim, adding to its sophisticated, handcrafted appearance. The faceplate with round inset instrumentation communicates a mechanical appearance. The steering wheel and center-mounted shifter, and attached-look door panels feature tool-like simplicity. The rear seats fold flat, creating ample cargo space and maximum usability.

The interior will be equipped with an array of standard convenience features including air conditioning, AM/FM CD audio with six speakers, tilt steering wheel, four cupholders, passenger seat back pocket, and an upper dash-mounted map/glove box.

Utility features include a two-part rear hatch with flip-up glass, black overfenders with mudguards, and silver painted bumper extenders, mirrors, door handles and skid plate. Easy rear passenger entry into the two-door SUV is achieved with rear access doors.

Additional optional equipment includes 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, rear differential lock, electronic four-wheel traction control (on 4WD models only), running boards, rear sonar backup assist, front seat-mounted side airbags and front- and rear-side curtain airbags, daytime running lights, power outside mirror with image lights, cruise control, AM/FM CD audio with a six-disc changer, equalizer and eight speakers, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, multi-information display, exterior color door insert panels, privacy glass, and rear wiper.

Pricing for the FJ Cruiser will reflect an excellent value when it launches this spring. The FJ Cruiser 4x2 with a five-speed automatic transmission will carry a base MSRP of $21,710. Pricing for the FJ Cruiser 4x4 with a six-speed manual will be priced at $22,890 while the 4x4 with a five-speed automatic will start at $23,300.

The debut of the Yaris Sedan and sporty S Sedan models join the all-new Yaris Liftback as second-generation vehicles, and Toyota's newest U.S. entry in the growing sub-compact segment. Launched in 1999, the first generation Yaris was Toyota's best-selling model in Europe and was named the (2000) European "Car of the Year."

All Yaris models will ride on an all-new platform that is longer and wider than its European predecessor. Air conditioning, tilt-steering wheel, and color-keyed mirrors and door handles are among their many standard features.

The Yaris sedans have a long stretched cabin with an arched beltline and all of the tires are pushed outward at each corner. Integrated bumpers and headlamps as well as a low center of gravity give the car a modern and sophisticated look of class-up styling.

In the rear, the taillights are bookends to a wide trunk that extends down to the bumper molding, which provides a more substantial appearance and allows for easy trunk access. Both the Liftback and Sedan will ride on P175/65 R14 tires with steel wheels and full wheel covers and offer available 15-inch steel or aluminum alloy wheels.

The S Sedan is designed to appeal to buyers looking for a four-door with sportier styling. With side rocker panels, front and rear under bumper spoilers, and available aluminum alloy wheels the Yaris S offers a more aggressive appearance.

With the longest wheelbase among key competitors, the Yaris Sedan and S Sedan interiors convey a feeling of spaciousness and unexpected refinement not usually found in a sub-compact. The front dash is designed with center-mounted instrumentation, which is integrated with a stylish silver-painted center console. Controls are simple to operate and easy to read. Storage and cupholders are in abundance, front and rear.

The Liftback features a modern mono-form shape made possible by its short overhangs and a low center of gravity exuding a strong youthful stance.

The liftback interior provides unexpected roominess and a comfortable cabin. The upscale interior provides remarkable design with four-way adjustable fabric front seats and reclining rear seating for three with headrests in all seating positions. The rear seats also fold down, providing nearly 13 cubic feet of cargo space.

Simplicity and practicality are built into the Yaris Liftback with easy-to-reach audio and climate controls, an array of storage spaces including a center console with built-in storage, and cupholders in the front and rear. The instrument cluster is center-mounted, high on the dash providing easy reach and visibility.

All Yaris models have rear seating for three with headrests in each seating position. Standard on the Yaris S and available on the Sedan and Liftback are 60/40 fold down rear seats with a fold-down center armrest and cupholder. Folding the 60/40 split rear seats in the sedans enlarges the trunk capacity, providing nearly 14 cubic feet of total cargo space.

Powering all Yaris models will be a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) that will have impressive fuel economy. Mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, the engine will produce 106 horsepower and 103 ft.-lb. of torque. Fuel efficiency for Yaris will be an impressive 34 miles per gallon in the city and 40 miles per gallon on the highway.

Combined with MacPherson strut front and rear torsion beam suspension, the Yaris will offer fun-to-drive handling and excellent maneuverability.

In addition to good overall handling, the Yaris also will offer seat-mounted side and front and rear side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, an audio system with MP3 capability and mini-jack port, power windows, mirrors and door locks, and a 60/40 split rear seat with reclining, sliding and fold flat features among its optional equipment.

When Yaris goes on sale in the spring it will be positioned as Toyota's most affordable vehicle. The Yaris Liftback will carry a base price of $10,950 for models with a manual transmission and $11,850 for models with an automatic. The Yaris sedan with a manual transmission will be priced at $11,825 while models with an automatic will carry a base MSRP of $12,550. The sporty S sedan will carry a base price of $13,325 for models with a manual transmission and $14,050 for models with an automatic.
