Cool new colors mark 2003 editions of Ford's classic pony car, like Redfire Clearcoat and Silver Clearcoat Metallic. Current designs -- including coupe and convertible variations in base and GT trim plus powerful SVT Cobra -- trace to a revival for Mustang in 1994 built off Ford's Fox platform. Today's Mustang in base coupe trim or daring drop-top totes Ford's 3.8-liter Essex V6 that produces 190 hp. Mustang GT coupe and convertible carry more power from Ford's single-cam 4.6-liter V8 pegged at 260 hp. All versions sport retuned suspensions with new shock absorbers. The new low-to-the-ground Mustang Mach 1 carries a ram-air scoop on the hood to shoot fresh air into the engine for more power and torque. With calibrated cams and modified upper intake to accommodate the ram-air system, the V8 jumps to 300 hp. In the cabin, Mach 1 has black leather seats, instruments with retro-look dials and polished aluminum pedals. Also new for Mustang is a V6 Pony Package that creates the look of a GT and adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Mustang's power monster returns with the SVT Cobra packing a Roots-type Eaton supercharger and new aluminum cylinder heads on the 4.6-liter V8 to spike 390 hp as tied to a six-speed manual stick. Cobra also has SVT-tuned springs with Bilstein shocks and 17-inch Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, with the cabin dressed in leather and suede.
