Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows whether a push- rod engine
has a cam belt. I'm confused!

Camshaft belts (timing belts) or commonly found on engines
with overhead cams whether it be a single cam (SOHC -
single overhead cam or two cams (DOHC - dual overhead cam).
Overhead cams do not require push rods as the camshaft is in
direct contact with either the lifters or the rockers. all
Honda motors are good examples of engines with timing
belts.

If an engine has push rods than it likely has a timing
chain. A push rod engine would likely be labeled as an OHV
(overhead Valve). These motors would be found in most older
vehicles and several manufactured to date. chevy 3.1 and 3.8
liters are good examples of this.

An engine with an overhead cam can also be timing chain
driven. Ford 5.4 liter, 4.0 SOHC, 3.0 DOHC are good
examples of this
