FIRST checking the entire charging system. It
"sounds" like your alternator is not re-charging the
battery, and providing the necessary current to run the
car. The new battery had enough charge to start, and then
run, the car long enough to get you to work, but by that
time, you had depleted the charge.
Any good technician can check for alternator output (it
should be in the area of 12.5 - 13.5 volts, with no
accessories running).
Remember, anything electrical in nature is similar to a
garden hose with a leak. The electrons (water) flow through
a circuit (the hose). Repairing only the first VISIBLE sign
of a leak (electrical discharge) is no guarantee that OTHER
links are not present further down the hose (charging
system). Test the entire system (hose) before putting it
back into operation.
