That blinking light is telling you that your airbag,
sensor, activator, or electrical system has a fault, and
that it may not work in the event of a collision. If it is
a passenger-side airbag that is not working, AND if you
have a collision where a passenger is injured, YOU
could be held liable for the injuries, through neglect.
Because of the delicate nature of airbag activators (many
emergency technicians have been injured by airbags
deploying during a rescue), ONLY a dealership should be
entrusted to this job.
If you bought the car used, beware! Many unscrupulous
dealers and mechanics use "dummy" airbag pods (this means
they are empty...no airbag, just a cover!), when repairing
a "salvage" vehicle. Such a dummy pod could cause the
flashing light also.
