Mid-size Mountaineer the Mercury SUV returns in 2006 with fresh sheetmetal styling, a revamped cabin with three rows of seats, new powertrain selections and more on-board amenities, such as power-controlled running boards tucked into rocker panels.

Keen styling outside features a bold face with Mercury's signature waterfall grille, the bumper in satin aluminum finish and fascia with rectangular foglamps. Mountaineer's cabin make-over brings new designs for seats, with fold-down benches on second and third rows to form a flat cargo floor. Premium cloth fabric is the standard with leather optional.

An enhanced 4.0-liter V6 with five-speed automatic is the stock powertrain, delivering 210 hp, while a new 4.6-liter V8 is available with 292 hp through a six-speed automatic. Optional AWD models use Ford's Control Trac system to automatically channel engine torque to any wheel. The AWD gear also includes Ford's AdvanceTrac traction controller with Roll Stability Control (RSC).

New models in the 2006 line of Mercury, from the Lincoln-Mercury Division of Ford Motor Company, multiply with the addition of two new nameplates. Milan is a fresh mid-size sedan for Mercury with premium equipment and two powertrain choices, while Mariner the crossover sport-utility vehicle spins off a gas-electric version sporting the badge of Mariner Hybrid.
