Following the introduction of the RX hybrid, look for a new generation of designs on the Lexus mid-size GS series of sports sedans with a two-inch wheelbase stretch on the slinky body. A 2+2 cockpit for GS expands in size and trims out in glossy hardwoods, shiny metal and soft leather. The dashboard holds a DVD-based navigation system that comes with a camera on the back bumper to picture the car's rearward track on a video monitor.

Two versions -- one with a new 245-hp 3.0-liter V6 and the other with the twin-cam Lexus 4.3-liter V8 for 300 hp -- work through a new six-speed automatic with sequential shifter.

These sedans also carry an adaptive variable suspension plus optional AWD traction tied to vehicle skid controls of the new Lexus vehicle dynamic management (VDM) system.
