Acura's car-based (crossover) SUV tips toward performance, as the MDX namemeans Multi-Dimensional Cross-Trainer in the image of a toned athlete.However, MDX is also a refined luxury SUV with AWD traction and a cabinstuffed with appointments and three rows of flexible seats.

A front-mounted engine sends power to the front wheels with an electronic device on tap to channel some of that muscle to the rear wheels when front ones slip. A total of 253 hp on 2006 editions flows from the six-cylinder engine through a five-speed automatic transmission.

MDX's cabin piles on leather and wood trimmings, with two bucket seats onthe front row, a three-person split bench for the second row and two third-row seats divided 50/50. This year the optional Touring Package adds ebony-colored zebra wood-patterned trim on the center console as well as satin chrome interior accents.
