"The response from collectors and enthusiasts in Palm Beach demonstrates that Barrett-Jackson Classic and Collector Car Auctions are the premier automotive lifestyle events in the world," said Craig Jackson, president of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. "In only our third year in Palm Beach, we are continuing to increase sales, attendance and the number of bidders and quality automobiles. It's exciting that the hobby continues to grow."

A total of 302 cars were sold for $11.8 million at last year's Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Collector Car Auction, presented by Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep. The 2005 event recorded over $22 million in sales for over 400 cars.

A wide selection of Corvettes, street rods, muscle cars and sports cars were sold at the automotive lifestyle event. One of the cars headlining the auction was the first ever 1968 Shelby G.T.500E convertible, selling for $550,800 including buyer's premium. Minutes later a 1953 Buick Roadmaster, last driven by Howard Hughes, sold for $1,620,000 including buyer's premium.

Throughout the auction, crowds watched bidders vie for an unparalleled selection of cars that shattered world records. Cars that set new records include the Hughes Buick Roadmaster and Shelby G.T.500E convertible, as well as a 1954 Buick Skylark convertible at $189,000, a 1969 Shelby G.T.500 for $113,400, a 2002 Cadillac LMP racecar for $270,000, a 1967 427 Corvette for $259,200, a 2004 Corvette Daytona Pace car at $86,400 and a 1970 Plymouth Superbird 440 single-four barrel sold for $153,360 including fees.

Additional highlights of the 2005 event included a "no-reserve" Automobilia Auction and an Automobile and Lifestyle Expo featuring 100 exhibitors. The event was launched with a gala that benefited the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which raised over $40,000 during the evening. Each year the Barrett-Jackson Auction reaffirms its leadership position in the collector car market by elevating consignment standards, breaking annual records, and serving as the indicator for market trends.
