Kyrgyzstan: Travel Advice Updated

London, 24 March/GNN/ -- FOREIGN AND COMMONWEALTH OFFICE News Release issued by the Government News Network on 24 March 2005. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office today revised its Travel Advice for Kyrgyzstan. The advice now advises against all but essential travel to Kyrgyzstan. This is due to the increased level of civil insurgency and the current volatile situation following the results of the Parliamentary elections of 27 February.

The summary now reads:

Protests against the results of the Parliamentary elections which took place on 27 February have now moved to the capital Bishkek. Due to the increased level of civil insurgency and while the situation remains volatile we advise against all but essential travel to Kyrgyzstan.

British nationals already in Kyrgyzstan are advised to avoid large groups of people and demonstrations.

You should be aware of the continuing threat from terrorism which Kyrgyzstan shares with other countries in Central Asia.
