How do I remove things with adhesive tape on them?

QUESTION: Could you please tell me if there is any product on the market or handy tip that will remove the rearview mirror plate from a windshield after it has been put on with Windshield Adhesive. My daughters rearview fell off and she accidently put it back on upside down.

ANSWER: We suggest that you find out what kind of adhesive your daughter used. Then call a hardware store and ask them what product will help loosen it. I've found that plain old everyday rubbing alcohol will remove adhesive, but it might not be strong enough to get between the metal/plastic of the rear view mirror housing and the glass. You may be able to soak balls of cotton with the alcohol and use that to loosen the adhesive. Test this method first to make sure it doesn't damage the paint.
