Coffee and Cars Equal Bacteria and Mold

Since more bacteria and mold grow in cars than houses, homeowners are not the only ones starting their spring cleaning. Environmental scientists say cars are greater breeding grounds since they contain smaller volumes of air. Experts say coffee drinkers and drivers with children tend to have vehicles with higher germ levels, since mold and bacteria are attracted to sugary substances. To kill these unwanted germs, it is recommended to keep a box of disinfectant napkins in the vehicle, having the car detailed or having the dealership apply disinfectant to the heating and cooling systems and periodically replacing the car’s cabin air filter - a system located on the intake side of the air conditioner that sifts the air coming into the vehicle.
