Instruction Permit

Age 15, 9 Months+

Requirements

  • Enrolled in approved driver education course.

Restrictions

  • Allows student to drive with qualified instructor in a dual-control car.

Practice Permit

Age 15, 9 Months+

Requirements

  • Enrolled in approved driver education course.

Restrictions

  • Valid for 90 days.
  • Student may practice with parent or legal guardian in passenger seat next to student.
  • No other passengers permitted in vehicle.

Learner Permit

Age 16+

Requirements

  • Completed driver education course.
  • Pass written & vision tests.

Restrictions

  • Valid for 6 months.
  • Must have licensed driver in passenger seat next to student.
  • No other passengers permitted in vehicle.

Operator Permit

Age 16+

Requirements

  • Have completed approved driver education course OR have proof of license from another state or country.
  • Under age 18 - Must provide verification of 30 hours practice driving, ten at night after sunset.
  • Practice driving credit for 6 hours behind-the-wheel driver training in driver education classes will be given. The parent or guardian who signs the assumption of liability must also certify, on an affidavit, that the practice driving requirement has been met.

Restrictions

Under age 17, may not drive between midnight & 5:00 a.m. UNLESS:

  • Accompanied by licensed driver 21 or above, seated next to driver.
  • To & from employment or employment related.
  • To & from religious or school related activities.
  • Ranching or agricultural activities under the direction of rancher or farmer.
  • An emergency situation.
