2005 Chevrolet Cobalt Production Vehicle

The Chevrolet Cobalt replaces the Cavalier in the automaker's lineup. It is an entry- level, small car that will be manufactured at the Lordstown, Ohio assembly plant.

The Cobalt family of front-wheel drive vehicles includes both a coupe and sedan. Both will be offered with a variety of trim levels.

Both versions will come with 4-cylinder engines, but the capabilities of the engines in each model will differ. The base LS and LT models will receive a 2.2-liter, DOHC engine. It generates 140 hpand 10 lb.-ft. of torque. The The SS will receive a 2.4-liter, DOHC engine, with Variable Valve Timing, will generate 170 hp, and 170 lb.-ft. of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on all models. A 4-speed automatic transmission is optional.

On the SS model, there will also be an available 2.0-liter, supercharged engine.

Standard features will include: air conditioning, electric rear defogger, CD player and driver information center. Optional features include: head-curtain side-impact airbags, leather interior, heated seats, power sunroof, SM Satellite Radon, MP3 player and OnStar.

Vented front disc brakes and drum rear brakes are standard on the base models. ABS is standard on some versions, but not all. Thee SS model will come standard with both 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS. Traction control is an option.
