New Company Rents Audio Books on CD

Simply Audiobooks Inc. has introduced a new concept to the North American audio book business - a market worth $2 billion (USD) annually in the US alone. Traditionally available only for purchase on cassette or CD, Simply Audiobooks rents its books on CD to subscribers for a simple, monthly subscription fee. The company has over 10,000 CDs available and is adding 500 new books every week to keep up with new customer demand.

Each subscriber is allowed two to four title rentals at any given time - depending on the subscriber's membership plan. When any title is mailed back (all return packaging and postage is included), the next title available on their request list or "Bookshelf" is mailed out to them. There are no postage, handling or late fees charged to Simply Audiobooks customers. Customers can keep their audiobooks as long as they like. Fulfilment is completed via first class mail and most orders are delivered in two to five business days.

"Audiobooks are ideal for commuters," says Sean Neville, President and co-founder, Simply Audiobooks Inc. "The average one-way commute in North America takes 24 minutes. Therefore, the average commuter can listen to one audio book (about four hours) in five days of commuting."

Neville conceived of the idea while sitting in his car on a highway in rush hour traffic. He wanted to listen to Jim Collins' popular business title "Good to Great", but was reluctant to absorb the cost to buy it. His local library did not have the title in stock and Sean had no time to drive around searching for it - especially if he would only listen to it once. His dilemma sparked the idea for an online shopping / home delivery audio book rental business, which became Simply Audiobooks.
